There are 12 children in the McGroary family, Some live abroad, some live nearby, and then there is Philip, the youngest (at 55) who still lives with his mother in the same house in which he was born. They live in the ‘new’ house- built in the early 1900’s.

One night at the local pub, Philip asked me about the feasibility of fixing up the old stone house- the house his father was born in- now derelict and crumbling. He wanted a place where family could come home and stay and be close by. He wanted to maintain the character of the old homestead, but make it water tight and insulated, and introduce new creature comforts.

The work here rehabilitates the old stone house, reinforcing the crumbling stone walls with new, cast in place concrete. The dirt floors are excavated and insulation and a new radiant floor system is added. A cast in place concrete addition houses the modern kitchen and bathroom, and introduces a communal dining area that frames a view of the iconic mountain- Carnaween.
